I will always adore how this show plays with negative space and the lines the characters make. I also am in constant love with how much space Alice takes up when she's in a room; female characters don't get to do that much- and with a character like John, who rules a room when he walks into it, it's even more wonderful.

I tried to play with that here, especially with the awesome caps chaila chose. I'd love for someone else to fill this as well; the caps are just such a great set.

So gorgeous! And yes, I love everything you say about how the show lets Alice take up space, and John's space in particular, which is notable not just b/c he's the lead but because he himself physically dominates scenes and space. Like, you always know where Alice is in a room in relation to John, physically; they rarely do just shot-reverse!shot when Alice and John have a scene together. You can always see Alice's head, or shoulder, or her hair flying into the frame, or whatever, and it's so much more visually significant and interesting.

Anyway, I should have guessed that picking five caps from my faaaavorite scene showing how the show uses space and bodies would mean that I would not be able to choose among icons! I love them alll. I think the first one is my favorite, for the way the cropping really emphasizes how she's got him pinned, but I also love the second one for how much of John's space Alice is taking up right there, and how...nonchalant he looks about it. And all the others for his face, and and her pwning him. And I just love them!

Like, you always know where Alice is in a room in relation to John,
I think that is it, exactly. When they occupy a room it becomes all about them and what they do to each other (usually what Alice is doing to Luther, tbh).
